How can you improve your live streaming quality for the Olympics?

This year’s summer of sport continues with the return of the Olympics! Taking place in France from 24 July to 11 August 2024, the two-week event sees over 10,000 athletes compete in a multi-sport celebration of the world’s best.

Whether you’re passionate about a specific sport or excited for all of them, we’re here to help you find out how to improve your live streaming quality for the Olympics.

How can you watch the Olympics this summer?

Similar to previous Olympics, the BBC will air their coverage including daily highlights on both BBC1 and BBC2, but this time there’s a new way to watch the ongoing action. You might notice that where previously BBC iPlayer had a whole range of sports, there are only a few live events available to watch via their livestreaming service this year.

This is because Discovery+, a relatively new streaming service which launched in 2020, has become the rights holder for Paris 2024. Their coverage, which is aired via different Eurosport channels, is available from 7am-10.30pm every day in the UK.

The Paris Olympics Schedule

With new sports including Breaking (breakdancing) and the insanely brilliant Kayak Cross added to the roster for 2024, this brings the total count of sporting events to 329 across 32 different disciplines. If you’re keen to catch all the action across the two weeks, you’ll need to check out the full schedule so you don’t miss a single thing!

But for those wanting to catch the best of the best – here are some of the top upcoming gold medal finals you’ll want to be ready for this week:

How to Ensure You Have a Quality Streaming Experience

With so many exciting events to look forward to, it’s more important than ever to know you can rely on your internet speeds for the smoothest streaming experience possible.

Use an Optimal Resolution

Adjusting your screen’s resolution can have a huge impact on your streaming quality. If your resolution is too high, it can slow down the connection causing the stream to lag and buffer without warning. It’s worth noting that this is only a quick fix as you’ll end up with a pixelated viewing experience that won’t live up to expectations.

For those with a solid connection however, this shouldn’t be a problem as you’ll be able to easily stream in full HD or 4k resolution to catch every moment in great quality.

Ensure you have the right device

Often the age of your device and the technology you’re using can affect your streaming quality as well. For the best results, make sure you are streaming on a newer, modern device with a good CPU and plenty of power to handle all of your streaming needs.

Get wired up.

Wired (ethernet) connections usually offer faster, and more consistent internet speeds compared to wireless. This makes them ideal for activities like a marathon Olympic streaming session.

Have the best connection possible

The best way to guarantee a solid viewing experience is to invest in a good quality internet connection. If you know you’ll be streaming regularly or using multiple devices, an ultrafast connection is perfect for households where their broadband is taking on a heavy load.

Upgrading your Wi-Fi with a professional provider like Jurassic Fibre means you’ll be able to enjoy faster internet speeds, mitigate buffering, and experience the Olympics without lag or interruption.
